Today is #NationalRadioDay, and after more than 40 years behind a microphone, I still don’t take this gift for granted. Radio has taken me from Chicago to New York City, Atlanta, Miami, and some of the biggest markets in the country. I’ve had a nationally syndicated radio show, worked with incredible stations and people, and experienced more than I could’ve ever imagined when I first started. But through all of that, what means the most to me is still the people. Radio has given me the opportunity to reach people, touch lives, build relationships, and serve communities in ways I could’ve never imagined growing up in Chicago. Today in Lansing, Michigan, home of my flagship show, Mr. Quiet Storm with Rick Party, we gave away 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to local kids. Seeing those children, their parents, the smiles, the gratitude, it took me right back to my own humble beginnings.
