The Sandman says Batista was a mid-level worker who would have been better suited to hardcore matches. Speaking on The Sandman Podcast while reviewing the June 2006 ECW Arena show recently released by WWE Vault, the ECW original gave his assessment of the former World Heavyweight Champion. “Batista probably would have been way better in a hardcore situation than a regular match,” The Sandman said. “Everybody knows he was a mid-level worker.” He acknowledged what Batista had beyond the ring work: “But he had it. He used it.” Host Brian W. Tosh pushed back, saying Batista had a lot of really good matches and pointing to his career since: “There’s a reason he’s in Hollywood.” The Sandman said his point was about style, not a burial: “I thought he would have had good hardcore matches.” The exchange came out of a discussion about the 2006 ECW relaunch pushing WWE stars like Batista, Big Show and Bobby Lashley to the top of the brand instead of using the ECW originals to elevate new tale...
