Some of us have mastered the art of smiling while silently falling apart. People look at me and say, “You don’t look depressed.” They see the smile, the jokes, the way I keep showing up. They never see the moments when I’m alone, trying to convince myself that I’ll make it through another day. The truth is, I’m exhausted. I’m tired of pretending I’m okay just because I know how to hide the pain. I’m tired of carrying battles no one knows I’m fighting. I’m tired of feeling broken while making everyone else believe I’m whole. Depression doesn’t always cry. Sometimes it smiles. Sometimes it goes to work. Sometimes it checks on everyone else while secretly hoping someone will ask, “How are you… really?” If you’ve ever felt invisible while screaming on the inside, know this: you’re not the only one fighting a war no one else can see.
