The Poweshiek skipperling, one of the world's rarest butterflies, began disappearing with startling speed in the early 2000s. By 2022, only nine were left in the U.S. Thanks to the efforts of MSU researchers and their conservation partners, these butterflies have been pulled back from the brink of extinction.
