How ornate are the outdoor cat enclosures on Portland’s 14th Annual Catio Tour? One backyard has several 2-foot-wide replicas of city bridges — all designed for cats to sunbathe and wander while safely elevated above the ground.
“I wanted our cats to be able to breathe fresh air and experience the outdoors while staying safe from harm, and for birds to be safe from our cats as well,” said Debbie Dicks, who lives in Southeast Portland’s Brooklyn neighborhood with her husband David, and their four cats. “But I also wanted something that gave our outdoor space some flair.”
The couple’s backyard is one of the stops on the Catio Tour fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in Southeast Portland. Tickets to the Catio Tour are $15 (
CatsSafeAtHome.org) and include a guidebook with details of the cat patios and other enclosures, including materials and costs.
