The incident happened around 7 p.m. Sunday in the Des Plaines River near Independence Grove in Libertyville. The Lake County Forest Preserve said the 31-year-old woman had entered the river to assist her son and, after helping him reach a family member, "she went underwater" and "became submerged." “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death in the Des Plaines River near Libertyville on Sunday evening.
