The simple things can be so unfairly hard for families like mine. Navigating airport security last time was absolute hell for us all. It was devastating watching how scared Freddie, my severely autistic son, was. He couldn’t stand still for long enough with his hands out for the new security scanner, and when they tried to do a manual check instead, he didn’t understand what the hell was happening. He was terrified. We almost missed our flight it was that bad. So travelling this time round, I was a bag of nerves. When I saw they had the same new scanners, my heart sank. I was panicking inside, wondering how on earth we were going to get through it again. But this time, he did it. ❤️ I showed him the handheld scanner on me first so he could see it didn’t hurt. We made it playful. We took our time. And he was so, so brave. I could see he was scared, but he did it. And I honestly couldn’t have been more proud of him.
