We had a very familiar yet special guest at our inaugural game and first of the M8 Derby series with the Caledonia Steel Queens Founder and Head of Programme Richard “Rambo” Gray. It was an honour to ask Rambo to drop the first puck for the Thistles. For those of you who don’t know Rambo, he is where some of the greatest momentum in women’s ice hockey in Scotland began. Prior to this, Solway Sharks Ladies remained the only female club in the country and pioneered the routes into the WNIHL in England. Rambo introduced University Hockey to the ladies game in Scotland as a catalyst to form the highly successful WNIHL Club that it stands to be now. He was the main driver underpinning the development of the new clubs across the neighbouring cities of Scotland, as women drove from all over the country to play and train in the First Ladies club of its kind in the Central Belt of Scotland.
