An Otaku High Schooler Remains an Otaku in Old Age I drew these autobiographical comics for Amai Marui vol. 2, a doujinshi created by marunmarutan. They look back on my life—from my days as an otaku high school student obsessed with anime, games, and doujinshi, to art university, my beginnings as a contemporary artist, and the creation of my early life-size figure works. I put a great deal of care into these drawings, yet strangely, they ended up resembling the style I drew in during high school and college. While drawing them, I remembered that when I was in high school, I didn’t even know that being a painter could be a profession. Perhaps self-deprecating stories are the easiest ones to draw.
