Chinese massage is NOT the relaxing massage you think it is I’ve been exploring more Traditional Chinese Medicine, recovery, and longevity practices, and Tui Na might be one of the most intense. Unlike a typical spa massage, Tui Na massage often uses concentrated pressure, joint movement, stretching and acupressure techniques. That’s why certain areas can feel ridiculously tender-especially if you train frequently, travel a lot, or carry a lot of muscular tension. What interests me most is the contrast between the traditional Chinese explanation and what we understand through modern recovery science. TCM practitioners may talk about meridians, circulation and stagnation.
