Its students outscored white schools in DC, filled Harvard and Amherst. Its teachers had PhDs and Ivy League degrees. Black excellence, impossible standards. Then 1954 came. Not a single resource was added. The community was scattered overnight and the excellence vanished in months. People call it "decline."
