#MariskaHargitay can’t help teasing one thing she might get to do on Emmys night: “I’ve always wanted to do ‘SVU: The Musical.’” But Hargitay admits she was initially hesitant to host the #Emmys. “At first I thought, ‘This is ridiculously thankless, a difficult job that everyone gets ripped apart for. Why? Why would I do that?’” She even called friends who had hosted awards shows before, and they all gave her the same advice: Don’t do it. Ultimately, she took the leap, inspired by her belief in television’s ability to bring people together. That belief comes in large part from nearly three decades on #LawAndOrderSVU. “Our show made people talk about sexual assault. Our show changed the culture,” Hargitay says. “And that is the power of television.
