THIS DAY IN PUNK August 19, 1977 After being banned from venues across the UK, the Sex Pistols found a very punk solution: go underground. On this day, they launched the S.P.O.T.S. tour—Sex Pistols On Tour Secretly—at the Lafayette Club in Wolverhampton. The shows couldn’t be advertised without risking cancellation, so the band booked secret dates under fake names. Tax Exiles. Acne Rabble. The Hamsters. A Mystery Band of International Repute. Ban the band. Change the name. Play anyway. #ThisDayInPunk #SexPistols #PunkHistory #ThePunkRockMuseum
