Have you ever seen one of these? 🦴 Enchondromas are the most common benign bone tumors of the hand and can look a little different here than elsewhere in the body—including being more cellular on histology. Many enchondromas can simply be watched, especially if they’re asymptomatic. Even when a fracture occurs through one, the fracture itself may heal without aggressive treatment. In this case, however, the MRI read raised enough concern that we elected to biopsy the lesion to confirm the diagnosis. 🔬 When surgery is performed, bone grafting isn’t always necessary after curettage. The defect can often fill in with new bone over time. But if there’s a large cavitary defect or concern about structural support, bone grafting is certainly something to consider. 👨‍⚕️ Would you have treated this differently? Let me know in the comments. #enchondroma #handsurgery #orthopedics #bonetumor #medicaleducation
