Researchers from CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation have developed a full-color near-eye display that could make augmented reality (AR) glasses brighter and more energy-efficient. 👓✨ Conventional full-color holographic waveguides record red, green, and blue (RGB) gratings in a single film, which reduces diffraction efficiency and creates dimmer images. To solve this, the team created a prism-free, multilayer fabrication method that records each RGB grating separately before stacking the layers. Published in Applied Optics, this approach optimizes each color channel independently, generating brighter virtual images while using less power—a key step toward compact, lightweight AR glasses for everyday use.
