The SM East parking lots start to fill rapidly as students arrive for school. Students who arrive after the 7:25 a.m. rush will lose their chance at a parking spot. With Kansas law allowing kids to drive to school starting at 15 years-old, there are significantly more students driving to SM East than high schools in other states.  Therefore, many students choose to carpool with siblings and friends to avoid the treacherous parking lots. In a poll of 162 people, 38% of SM East students responded that they carpool to school — which happens to be the same percentage as Americans who carpool regularly, according to the Pew Research Center.
