Kansas law HB 2299 was passed on March 19 and later implemented throughout the Shawnee Mission School District at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. The law prohibits personal electronic communication devices from being used, accessed, or kept on the students person for the entire duration of the school day. The punishment for an infraction is immediate confiscation of the device, Skyward referral and an escort to the front office for a meeting by an administrator.
