Von Miller signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys worth $5.5 million, up to $7.5 million. The full-circle DeMarcus Ware story is everywhere. The part nobody is covering is what that circle actually cost Dallas. In March 2014 the Cowboys released DeMarcus Ware to save roughly $7.4 million in cap space. He left as the franchise all-time sack leader with 117. One day later he signed with Denver, where John Elway has said the move was partly to help a 24-year-old Von Miller who had just been suspended six games and torn his ACL. Two seasons later Miller was the MVP of Super Bowl 50. In 2022 Miller called Ware directly to ask whether Dallas was interested. Dallas made an offer. Miller said he would have taken less to come home, but not that much less, and he signed a six-year, $120 million deal with Buffalo.
