Jayden Daniels sent LSU a cease and desist over his No. 5 jersey — but the part nobody is covering is that he already blocked this exact move two years ago.
Former LSU coach Brian Kelly told ESPN that DJ Pickett was promised No. 5 during his recruitment in 2024, and that Kelly never issued it because Jayden Daniels would not approve it. Kelly was fired in October 2025. New head coach Lane Kiffin honored the promise, Pickett switched from No. 3 to No. 5 when fall camp opened on August 5, and that same day an attorney for Daniels informed LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry that the school can no longer use his name, image and likeness.
