In between photo takes, our hands were busy sampling Porto’s food and wine scene.
Easiest way in: book a food and wine tour. Highly recommend it. That’s how we got to
#francesinha , steak, ham, and sausage under melted cheese and a fried egg.
#Bifana and cachorrinho are also tasty. The
#cachorrinho was my favorite of the three. It’s basically a grilled hotdog with cheese.

manteigaria.oficial Pastel de nata at the counter, cinnamon on top, too hot to hold. Don’t take it to go, the whole point is the first ninety seconds. 😋
Mercado do Bolhão mbolhao for lunch. Don’t commit to one stall. Graze it. Try some grilled sardines, salt cod, cured meats and cheese, fresh pasta, pastries, and a glass of wine or port alongside. Finish with ginja in a small cup, standing up, no ceremony.
Stop in at Casanatal for port. Open since 1900 and still a shop rather than a tasting room. Ask what they’d pour for themselves and drink that instead of what’s on the board. We walked away w...
