Anthony Colandrea will be Nebraska’s starting quarterback when the Huskers open the 2026 season. Head coach Matt Rhule made the designation Saturday following Nebraska’s second fall scrimmage, saying Colandrea would be the starter if the team played today. “Anthony would play for us right now as the starter,” Rhule said. Nebraska closed training camp Saturday with a roughly 110-play scrimmage and will begin its transition toward the season as classes start Monday. The Huskers begin Ohio preparation Thursday, Aug. 27, ahead of their opener nine days later. Rhule praised Colandrea’s competitive edge and command of the offense, specifically pointing to his decision-making in both the run and pass game. “He’s very competitive, fiery. He expects to win every play,” Rhule said. “He’s disciplined. He takes what’s there. He makes nice checks in the run-pass game.
