Most sports cars are designed for racetracks, highways, and perfectly paved roads. Porsche decided to take one somewhere that sounds completely wrong for a 911: the side of a volcano. The mission? Take a specially prepared Porsche 911 to Ojos del Salado in Chile — the highest active volcano on Earth, rising to roughly 6,900 meters (22,600+ feet) above sea level. At that altitude, the air is brutally thin, temperatures can plunge far below freezing, and the terrain is nothing like the roads a normal 911 is built to conquer. So Porsche didn’t simply take a showroom car and start climbing.
