There’s a version of this story I don’t usually tell.
For a full year, “push through” was the only advice anyone gave us.
Push through the mornings.
Push through the freeze.
Push through school refusal like it was just resistance to overcome.
It wasn’t resistance.
It was a nervous system stuck in freeze - and every time we pushed, her body logged it as more proof the world wasn’t safe.
Not as progress.
The turning point wasn’t pushing harder.
It was learning her alarm system wasn’t broken.
It was doing exactly what it was built to do.
Once we stopped fighting it, we could finally work with it.
That year she missed over 100 days of school.
But she graduated high school with entry into her first-choice university. Incredible!
If you’re in the middle of your own “pushing through” right now: comment TOOLKIT and I’ll send you everything that helped us stop fighting her nervous system and start working with it.
With love,
- Jules ❤️
