"Wait here".
That's what a father reportedly said to his seven-year-old son after leaving him behind to climb Mount Fuji.
The child was left with a soft drink and a snack when mountain staff found him at the sixth station of a hiking route towards the summit of Japan's highest mountain, and alerted police.
Officers castigated his father when he returned from the higher station and reunited with his son, who is said to have been "tired and fussy" after eight hours of waiting.
