I was compelled to say something. What happened in a six block radius, my backyard.. So many women went missing. Found murdered. But we didn’t do a f*cking thing about it..until the numbers skyrocketed.. I mean 14 women in one year alone. It was 2006. This project of painting 69 large-scale portraits began when those missing women were printed on a poster. It was a five-year journey, and 17 years later, the collection sits forgotten in a warehouse. I pray for all the motherless children. It wasn’t the serial killer who took their lives.
