We are very used to looking at dogs through problems.
Barking, reactivity, separation anxiety, destructive behaviour, aggression, shyness. When something goes wrong, we notice it, try to understand it and look for ways to improve it. And for good reason. Problems need attention.
But a good life is also made up of positive experiences. Exploring, playing, making choices, interacting with others and doing things that are genuinely rewarding. These are easy to overlook precisely because nothing is wrong.
A dog enjoying something doesn't create urgency. There is no problem to solve. But paying attention to what they choose, seek out and return to can tell us a lot about what matters to that individual dog.
There is a lot of information in the things dogs enjoy and it is worth noticing.
