On Tuesday, August 18th, the Little East Conference announced the addition of Saint Anselm College as an affiliate member in men’s and women’s ice hockey, along with men’s and women’s golf, beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year.
Saint Anselm announced earlier this year that they will begin transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division III, also beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year. Majority of the Hawks’ varsity sports will join the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) as the men’s ice hockey team will join current NEWMAC member Babson College in the LEC. Following successful completion of the NCAA’s reclassification process, the Hawks will be fully eligible for DIII championships beginning with the 2029-2030 academic year. The addition of Saint Anselm will place LEC membership at 10 men’s ice hockey programs and 8 women’s ice hockey programs.
