Today, USS Constitution added a new distinction to her storied legacy. During the underway in Boston Harbor, “Old Ironsides” was officially designated a Purple Heart Ship, honoring generations of Americans who were wounded or killed in action in defense of our nation. We were honored to welcome Purple Heart recipients aboard and share this historic occasion with them. Each year on Aug. 7, USS Constitution will observe Purple Heart Day and fly her holiday-size national ensign in tribute to our nation’s Purple Heart recipients. The City of Boston also issued a proclamation officially recognizing today as USS Constitution Purple Heart Ship Day. USS Constitution and her crew are humbled and proud to receive these honors and carry forward the legacy of Purple Heart recipients by recognizing their courage, sacrifice and unwavering devotion to our nation. #USSConstitution
