The opportunity to play golf wasn't afforded to all before 1961... Prior to that time, depending on your skin color, non-whites were prohibited from competing professionally, and instead, they were only allowed to work as caddies. The year 1961, however, marked a pivotal one for non-whites, as the PGA lifted their "Caucasian only" clause, which had prevented non-whites from becoming members of the PGA. This Eastside collaboration is about seeing change in the golf world—true change. We want to challenge all leader in the golf industry to create more progress and opportunities for non-whites since lifting the clause 62 years ago on September 11, 1961. This collaboration is about honoring those who paved the way and creating real, measurable change to propel the game forward.
