So you planned on making music...
Then somehow it's 8pm and you've spent the whole day doing everything except opening your DAW.
Or you opened your DAW and you're just browsing reels.
Don't write the day off just yet.
Here's what I do:
1. Get rid of every distraction
Phone on silent.
Close YouTube.
Close Instagram.
Your brain can't focus on music if it's competing with notifications.
2. Decide what success looks like
Don't tell yourself you're going to "finish a song."
Tell yourself you're going to write one melody, finish one drop, or mix one section.
Small wins create momentum.
3. Set a 30 minute timer
Promise yourself you can stop when the timer goes off.
Most of the time you'll keep going because getting started is the hardest part.
4. Don't judge anything you make
Your job tonight isn't to make a hit.
Your job is to make progress.
The first step to making incredible music is to complete small pieces at a time
