Caught a couple baseball games at the state tournament today, though both of the teams I was covering lost. In the Class 1A final, Fayetteville battled back from an early deficit to push the game to extra innings, where Ira scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th. Fayetteville improbably rebounded, loading the bases twice in the bottom of the 8th and scoring 3 runs but lost on a ground ball to first, leaving a pair of runners on base. Later in the day, Rouse and Grapevine faced off in a Class 5A semifinal. Grapevine won the pitchers’ duel 2-1, with all three runs coming in the final inning. Rouse’s Gavin Silva went 6.1 innings, striking out six and giving up just one hit and one earned run.
