Hot air balloons take to the sky carrying tourists for a sunrise flight over the west bank of Luxor, Egypt, along the Nile River, January 25, 2022. Personal note: Sadly, we missed the opportunity to do this while in Luxor. We got up early Monday morning - our last full day in the city, took a pre-dawn boat ride across the nile followed by a van ride out to the airfield. There, we waited about an hour and a half for clearance from air traffic control. Finally, we were told that conditions were still too windy to safely fly, and we returned to the hotel. Upon getting up Tuesday morning, I stepped out onto the balcony to watch the sun hit the mountains before we had to go down for breakfast and checkout, and sure enough... the balloons were taking off with those lucky enough to have their flights booked for Tuesday.
