#HabitatUncoveR3D with Skip Hobbie (skipswildlife) For Bat City, a series of educational shorts created for audiences visiting Austin’s famous Congress Avenue Bridge, cinematographer Skip Hobbie set out to showcase the beauty and diversity of bats around the world. Working with Merlin Tuttle’s Bat Conservation, the team traveled to Costa Rica for a single intensive shoot, capturing as many species as possible in one location. Filming bats comes with its own unique challenges. Fast-moving and most active after dark, they require patience, specialist knowledge, and high frame rates to reveal behavior that happens too quickly for the human eye. Skip used the RED V-RAPTOR shooting 8K at 120fps for wider sequences, paired with a Phantom VEO 4K for close-ups.
