Don’t blink or you might miss seeing this black marlin (Istiompax indica). Our pelagic remote camera recorded this footage while deployed off the coast of Savai’i, Samoa. Found in the open sea, black marlins show a strong affinity for coastal drops, continental shelves, and shallow seamounts. These apex predators, which eat pelagic fish and cephalopods, can grow up to 15 feet long and weigh over 1,500 pounds.
