It’s so easy to get caught up comparing myself to where I expected to be by now, or focusing on what I still want to achieve… and then I remember what it took to get here. How much I’ve overcome & figured out… how many times I’ve started over & reinvented myself… how I’ve been brave enough to change my mind, make mistakes, trust I deserved better even when what came next was uncertain, & do the things people said were wildly “unrealistic.” When I was 13 I’d read the pages in Glamour dedicated to women making a difference in the world, or giving voice to people in overlooked corners of the globe. I dreamt that one day I too would travel to the places most people never think to go, learn about different cultures, and tell stories that move people the way those stories did for me.
