SpaceX has officially announced Starbase Louisiana, a new $100 billion Starship launch and manufacturing complex that will become the largest launch site on Earth, according to the company. Elon Musk and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry unveiled the project on August 25, 2026, at an event in Abbeville, Louisiana. The facility will sit on roughly 125,000 acres of Gulf Coast wetlands near Pecan Island in Vermilion Parish, and Louisiana officials say it is the largest capital investment in the state's history. The plan calls for five launch complexes with two Starship pads each, for a total of 10 launchpads, along with onsite propellant production, power generation, deep water shipping infrastructure, vehicle processing facilities, an airport, and housing for employees.
