spider-man 2 is the best spider-man movie. a huge reason for that is dr otto octavius. how did alfred molina manage to go from giving me wholesome dad energy to being one of the coolest and most terrifying villains? otto starts this movie as a scientist who genuinely wants to make the world better. he’s excited about his work, he’s in love with his wife, kind, a little awkward and honestly has big dad energy. then the experiment goes horribly wrong, his wife dies and the mechanical arms fuse to his body. suddenly we’re watching this genuinely lovely man slowly disappear underneath his grief and obsession. he isn’t evil because he woke up one morning and decided he wanted to destroy new york…. he’s a man who has lost everything and becomes so consumed by his original dream that he can no longer see what it’s turning him into. the way sam raimi shoots the arms like they’re alive, the way they move independently, and the way otto fights with them… it’s just cool. “the power of the ...
