During our celebration of Ascension Thursday Mass earlier this year, members of the Class of 2027 were commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers. The commissioning of an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion – often referred to as a Eucharistic Minister – is a formal church service where a lay person is blessed and given official permission to help distribute the bread and wine at Mass. During the Mass, students were called forward as a group where Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Chuck Frederico, S.J. addressed the group along with the congregation just before the candidates affirmed their commitment to become ministers. Fr. Frederico offered a prayer for the new ministers, and sprinkled them with Holy Water. Some of the Eucharistic Ministers assisted with the distribution of Holy Communion later in the Mass.
