The Hagler Institute for Advanced Study at Texas A&M University has quietly become one of the most powerful engines for research collaboration in American higher education. Since 2011, it has brought 161 world-class researchers to campus — including six Nobel laureates, an Academy Award winner and a four-time Grammy Award winner — pairing them with rising faculty and graduate students in a unique "triad" model designed to ignite innovation and elevate the next generation of scholars. A bold idea that started 15 years ago has transformed into an institute that has helped grow the university's research funding from $500 million to $1.4 billion, dramatically increased its National Academy members and convinced over 20% of visiting fellows to join the permanent faculty.
