As millions of Americans continue to feel the sting of high grocery and fuel prices, retirees — and those who rely on Social Security — are particularly vulnerable. But more money could be on the way soon. In looking at recent Consumer Price Index data, the Senior Citizens League, a non-partisan group highlighting issues affecting older Americans, estimated earlier this month that the 2027 Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) would be 3.6%. In 2026, it was 2.8%. With a 3.6% increase, an average benefits check would then go up by about $70 per month.
