JUST IN | A murder suspect being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center has died, the sheriff's office said. The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office said 33-year-old Douglas Michael Stroupe was found unresponsive in his cell around 1 p.m. Monday. He was taken to Mission Hospital where he died Tuesday afternoon. Stroupe was awaiting trial in connection with a deadly stabbing and assault in Asheville in November 2025.
