The trap bar deadlift isn’t just the “beginner” version of a deadlift. 👀
There are several situations where I may actually prefer it over a conventional deadlift — especially when working with athletes or someone returning to training after an injury.
Here are 5 reasons you might want to make the switch:
1️⃣ Returning from an injury
The trap bar can be a useful way to gradually reintroduce loaded lower-body strengthening and hinging while changing the demands placed on the body. Your specific exercise selection should always depend on the injury, stage of recovery and individual tolerance.
2️⃣ More quad involvement
The trap bar setup generally allows for more knee flexion and a more upright torso, which can shift some of the demand toward the quads and off of the low back.
3️⃣ Athletic development
