This is what engaging, high-quality instruction looks like in action. Ms. Reagan, a 6th grade teacher at A.M. Story, intentionally adapted a Talk to Talk lesson from the Bluebonnet textbook to increase engagement and rigor, transforming it into a hands-on, interactive learning experience. Students collaborated with peers, used algebra tiles, worked with coordinate grids, created tables of values, and applied algebraic properties to determine whether expressions were equivalent—all reinforced with an exit ticket on the Distributive Property. Throughout the lesson, students confidently used learning walls, manipulatives, journals, and peer discussion to support their thinking and problem-solving. It was inspiring to hear students ask thoughtful questions, reflect on why strategies worked—or didn’t—and demonstrate strong teamwork and a positive attitude toward learning.
