Strong partnerships. Strong roots. Stronger community. Thursday night, Palestine ISD proudly recognized Miguel Varnado as the 2025 Quarter 4 ROOTS Award recipient at the PISD School Board meeting. Created by the Palestine YMCA, the ROOTS Award honors leaders who make a lasting impact through outreach, teamwork, and service. Miguel serves our community in countless ways—as a Palestine Police Department officer, YMCA member, volunteer coach, and mentor to youth. His steady leadership helps our students and community grow stronger every day. We are proud that Officer Varnado and his wife are Wildcat Nation alumni, along with Palestine Police Chief Mark Harcrow. It was a special honor to have Chief Harcrow, Ms. Shellenbarger, and Mrs. Piersall from the Palestine YMCA join us for the presentation.
