Because of the way our arm is shaped, it's significantly easier for us to drive through the pitch when reaching across the body to the catcher’s arm side because we can just extend through our tricep.
As soon as the ball gets to the left side (or glove side) of our body, we then have to flip our glove and it's not easy to get back. Plus the glove flipping vertically tips the umpire that the pitch is outside of our body.😬
What you're gonna see a lot of catchers do on TV, if you notice, is they will just set up extra far outside so that they don't have to catch a pitch to the left side of their body.👀
Instead that pitch is in the center of their body or under their left shoulder at the furthest.
This makes it significantly easier to frame that pitch because even though it's an outside pitch, it's in the middle of your body. You're just removing the hardest pitch in total.💪🤯
