Doris “Dorie” Miller became an American hero for his courage at Pearl Harbor despite serving in a Navy that restricted Black sailors because of their race. Now, the Navy is reportedly considering changing the aircraft carrier set to honor him... a historic distinction that would make it the first named for a Black American and enlisted sailor.
