Preserving African Studies means more than keeping a program’s name alive... it means protecting the people, resources and scholarship behind it. After nearly 80 years as a leading hub for African scholarship, Northwestern’s Program of African Studies is losing its research-center status and its only two staff positions. The university says PAS will continue, but the restructuring raises questions about what will remain behind the name. Across the country, Black and African Studies programs are facing restructuring, funding cuts and growing uncertainty... changes that may look small on paper but have a much bigger impact on whose history gets studied, whose stories are preserved and what the next generation gets the chance to learn. #LetsDiscuss What should institutions do to ensure Black and African Studies remain supported and accessible? 🖤
