Nature heals when you give it a chance.
Scotland banned bottom trawling in part of the South Arran Marine Protected Area, and nearly a decade later seabed life had tripled and species diversity doubled compared with nearby unprotected waters.
But across the world, oceans are still being pushed to the brink by destructive industrial fishing and overfishing, the looming threat of deep sea mining, fossil-fuelled climate change, and pollution from industrial meat and dairy production.
Ocean heat has reached critically high levels in recent months, putting marine ecosystems under even greater pressure.
We know what works: give the ocean real protection and the space to recover. Governments must deliver strong ocean sanctuaries, stop destructive fishing, end fossil fuel expansion, and agree a global moratorium on deep sea mining.
