John Cena's Coyote vs. Acme finally hits theaters Friday, nearly three years after Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the finished film.
Cena plays Buddy Crane, the slick corporate lawyer defending Acme, opposite Will Forte as Kevin Avery, the billboard attorney who takes Wile E. Coyote's case after decades of exploding Acme products finally push the coyote to sue. Lana Condor and Tone Bell also star, with Eric Bauza voicing Wile E. The live-action/animation hybrid is based on Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker piece written as a legal complaint filed on the coyote's behalf.
The film was completed in 2022 with a budget of around $70 million, originally for HBO Max. In late 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery cancelled it entirely as a tax write-off, the same treatment that killed Batgirl, drawing industry-wide backlash. Ketchup Entertainment acquired it in 2025 and is releasing it exclusively in theaters.
