President Donald Trump’s administration is asking the Supreme Court to allow it to cut millions of dollars in science grants based on DEI language.
U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer submitted an appeal to the Court on Wednesday in an attempt to overturn a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling from May. In this ruling, eight UC researchers sued the administration on First Amendment grounds following mass grant cancellations after federal agencies used keywords such as “diversity” and “minority” to help identify targets.
The Supreme Court has not yet declared if it will hear the case.
